Golden Tamarin Monkey

A 14 year old Golden Tamarin Monkey was brought in from the zoo due to a fractured arm.  Unfortunately, due to the extremely small size, 460 gm, the bone could not be repaired with even micro plates and screws.  She wouldn't tolerate any external bandages so her leg had to be amputated.

During the lengthy surgical procedure anesthesia was maintained under the watchful eye of our technicians.  IV fluids were given during the surgery.

Recovery was slow, but she has returned to full activity.  We were disappointed that we couldn't save the arm, but very happy our intensive care and the high risk anesthesia resulted in a healthy patient.
