M

"M" came to us after being left in a garage
for 4 days without food at 7 weeks of age. She weighed an emaciated
4 lbs. and was very close to death. On top of the starvation, her
small intestine had telescoped on itself in what is called an intussusception.
During a lengthy, high risk surgical procedure
which involved cardiac arrest, resuscitation and complete blood volume
transfusion, all but 6 inches of her small intestines had to be removed
and reattached due to loss of blood supply.

Miraculously, she survived. At times
we wondered if she was a cat cashing in her 9 lives. She remained
in critical care for a week as her remaining intestines tried to recover
and begin absorbing protein.

To make a long story brief, she made a complete
recovery. She still has to be on a controlled diet (which sometimes includes
shoes, chairs, and blankets), but "The Gator Hound" now lives with Dr.
Nelson. She weighs 40 lbs. and is a living tribute to the intensive
care abilities of which we are very proud.
