Dr. Richard Nelson

Dr. Rick Nelson grew up in Chicago and Detroit. Upon graduation from Michigan State University with his D.V.M. degree in 1976, he moved to Elkhart and joined Dr. Julius Fishler at the Fishler Animal Hospital in its Main Street location. In 1980, the Animal Aid Clinic-South was completed and the practice moved to its current location.

In 1986, Dr. Nelson became a board certified specialist in small animal medicine. Special interests include orthopedic surgery and soft tissue surgery.

Dr. Nelson is married to Barbara and has two sons, Jesse, and Ian (Nicole). His family also includes two dogs, “Q” the chocolate lab mix and "M" a miniature black lab and Smoosh a Burmese cat. Outside practice you can find Dr. Nelson officiating for the Arena Football League (his number is 10 when you see a game on TV) and the Big Ten conference in the Fall. Raising bluebirds, tree swallows, catfish, and everything with nature are other interests. He has also served as president of the Concord School Board, Elkhart County Humane Society Board of Directors, and the Michiana Veterinary Medical Association.


Dr. Minerva Anderson

Dr. Minerva Anderson is a graduate of Goshen High School and Purdue University. She joined the Animal Aid Clinic in 1992. Dr. Anderson has lived in the Elkhart area for over 20 years. She has a special interest in opthalmology and ultrasonography. Her family includes her husband, David and sons, Charles, 2, and Nicholas, born July 2005.  Also at home are four horses, two dogs "Elsie", a Great Dane and "Nasha", a terrier mix, and "Riggs" the cat. In her spare time she enjoys horseback riding and spending time with her family.  Dr. Anderson is also a board member of the Elkhart County Humane Society.



Dr. Stacey Broxon

Dr. Stacey Broxon graduated from Purdue University in May 2003 with a Bachelor of Animal Science and a Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine. She relocated to Elkhart shortly after graduation. Her four-legged children consist of three cats; Kody, Daisy May and Lola.  Interests include any outdoor activities, working out and travel. Her most ambitious trip was a recent two week stint to Vietnam with Dr. Nelson. There, they toured veterinary clinics/universities throughout Hue and Hanoi and demonstrated basic skills necessary to practice small animal medicine. Both are currently working on helping to develop a small animal curriculum for universities throughout Vietnam.


Dr. Sara Granberg

Dr. Sara Granberg grew up in Elkhart and is a graduate of Concord High School. After she graduated from Purdue University School of Veterinary Medicine in 2002, she moved to the Austin, TX area for two years. There, Dr. Granberg worked primarily on performance horses, brood mares and small animals. She returned to the Elkhart area in February 2004 and now resides in Middlebury. Her home includes six cats, “Pepper”, “Cowboy” & “Willy” (who protect the house), “Carlos”, “Sancho” & “Ramone” (who patrol the barn), three horses, “Rooster”, “Spookie”, and “Luna”, two dogs “Lily” and “Tessie” and her husband, Justin. Her special interests include soft tissue surgery and internal medicine.


Kris Young-R.V.T.

A lifetime resident of Elkhart, Kris Young R.V.T. started with Dr. Nelson at Fishler Animal Hospital as a secretary. In 1981, the same year that AAC-S opened, she became licensed as a Registered Veterinary Technician. From 1996 until 2006, Kris took on the additional duties of Practice Manager for AAC-S. She is currently in charge of development of the clinic's physical therapy and rehabilitation services.

Kris spent several years as an officer on the board of directors for Loveway and as a volunteer for the Special Olympics. Her four-legged family includes "Mai Tai", a siamese mix and two dogs, "Denali", and "McKinley".

Outside work, Kris enjoys riding her motorcycle, collecting antiques, and traveling with her family.
